"The
superb hooks, great beats and terrific melodies that span the entire
album
will insure the a feel good time for all who take in the Snider’s
sound. And for those who like to dig deeper, get a little more out
of the experience, Testface more than provides one with enough sonic
and psychological mysteries, puzzles, clues, and other oddities to
play with, consider, and try to figure out. One of the great albums
of 2005 and with Testface an emerging force in the independent music
world... one of those must
own records, complete in a gorgeously designed digi-pak as random
and rare as the sounds it houses."

"This
record is just so completely beautiful and utterly heartbreaking,
it's a little hard to know how to describe it in a way that does
it justice. Everytime we put this on, it sucks us into another world,
sepia toned and twighlit, dark and dusty, lonely and mysterious.
This is the kind of record that is SO evocative, that really does
make you feel the music in your heart and soul. You can hear some
Sparklehorse, some Court And Spark, some Wilco, some Souled American...but
it all sounds so personal and intimate... So so so good it just kills
us."

"Today,
when most of the so-called musical innovators simply offer contemporary
takes on already proven and accepted movements in music (neo-psychedelia,
nth-wave garage bands...) Portsmouth, New Hampshire's Nat Baldwin
is a true original. Baldwin is an upright bass player and a singer,
but he takes both of those things to their limit, and has perfected
a sound that he can call entirely his own.
His
bass playing can be soothing or jarring- he bows and plucks, taps
and scratches... he finds endless different sounds in his instrument,
and it never seems lacking or overplayed. His voice is a beautiful
instrument all it's own. A big, open, oceanic voice- sultry and
sublime. The simple combination of Baldwin's bass and singing is
pure, direct, and timeless."

New Mother - LP
SOLD OUT |
"What
do you get if you throw Michael Gira, some noises from an abandoned
industrial warehouse, a small piece of Leonard Cohen,
a chorus, an Irish harp, a xylophone, and about 50 other musical instruments
into a blender? You might get New Mother, the new (first) album from
The Angels of Light. This haunting CD combines the genius mind of Michael
Gira with talented artists. New Mother is absolutely remarkable in
its musical arrangements and Gira's typically cathartic lyrics, but
represents a departure from Swans."
